Admissions Requirements

Applicants for this program are only required to have a bachelor’s degree.

We believe that every working professional should have access to legal education. Because of this, we review applications holistically and don’t require test scores or any professional experience for admission.

Application Checklist

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed online application
  • Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts
    • Transcripts should be attached with the other application materials. Applications should be sent to gradlaw@depaul.edu. Alternatively, applications can be mailed to:
      Office of Law Admissions
      DePaul University College of Law
      25 East Jackson Boulevard
      Chicago, IL 60604-2287
  • Personal statement
    • Help us get to know you, your experience and your goals for the program. In two pages or less, discuss your intellectual interests and pursuits; personal, family or educational background; talents or accomplishments; reasons for applying to our online MLS program; or any other factors that will assist our Admission Committee’s evaluation of your candidacy.
  • Résumé (optional)
    • This should be current and should not exceed two pages.
  • Letters of recommendation (optional)
    • While optional, letters of recommendation are highly recommended and can play a significant role in the decision process. Letters may be written by employers or colleagues who are in positions to make critical and informed appraisals of an applicant’s qualifications.
  • TOEFL, IELTS or DET scores are required if the applicant has an undergraduate degree from an institution where English is not the primary language.

Decision Process

If we have any questions, or require additional information to review your application, we will contact you. Once all application materials have been submitted, you will receive an email with a decision in 5 to 10 business days.

Please use Applicant Status Online (ASO) to monitor the progress of your application through our admissions process. To view the current status of your application, you will be required to login with the credentials provided to you by the Office of Admission.

The approval process for professional experience waivers is separate from the admissions process. You will typically hear whether you’ve qualified for a credit reduction within two weeks of submitting a request.
